Describe the healthcare model
List the services the facility intends to provide. Explain which departments are required at opening and which may be added later. This creates a reference point for space planning, equipment discussions and the development programme.
Gather site and building information
Collect the site plan, access information, available surveys and existing building drawings. For a renovation, record occupied areas, known service routes and restrictions on work. Identify information that needs verification rather than treating an old drawing as a complete record.
Map the department relationships
Discuss connections between arrival, outpatient services, diagnostics, treatment, inpatient departments and support spaces. Include staff and service movement. The goal is a coherent operating layout, not simply a list of rooms that fits within an area.
Bring engineering and equipment into the layout
Plant rooms, shafts, equipment access and utilities influence early design. Collect equipment information before room details are fixed. Define which items the owner supplies and which belong in construction or specialist packages.
Agree responsibilities
Record who approves the brief, drawings, materials and equipment selections. Establish which advisers and specialist parties are responsible for project-specific requirements. Clear decision points help the team understand when information is needed.
Plan the route to handover
Include inspections, documentation, equipment setup and operator familiarisation. A finished room is only part of readiness. Define what each package must deliver and how outstanding actions will be recorded.
